Complaints about the Magic is Might Experience

Here's a place for you to talk about aspects of the experience that annoy you.   What are your MIM pet peeves?     Please try to be kind while complaining; and remember that many people (both official and nonofficial) are putting a lot of work into this without getting paid.    I think everyone's allowed to make mistakes; and especially those who are giving away services for free.

I don't know if this is a complaint, more of a question.

How much should we reveal about our real selves? Is it better to keep our masks on through out the game, or allow people to know who we are in real life?

I watched a bit of a video chat with the role-playing actors yesterday. It was neat to see their real identities, but in a way it slightly diminished the game for me.

Maybe the fault lies with myself. If I don't want to see the actors being themselves...don't click on the chat link. Some people might enjoy the game more if they do know who's behind the mask.

I have only one complaint, sort of.. there are so many characters (on Facebook) and so much going on that I just can't keep up with everything. In the beginning it seemed quite okay, I read most of the things everyone said and all the articles and commented and was quite a lot involved, but now... Now I just read the MiM articles, comment them a bit, as much as I can, and in Facebook I'm completely clueless as to what's going on. It's just overwhelming, and especially since I have my last year in school and exams coming up... I wish I had more spare time to "experience" it. That's all I have to say :)

A,

Good luck on your exams! Are you in college?

I agree. There's a lot out there, and it's hard to keep up...especially since we have a life outside of Harry Potter.

I've been thinking that I may reduce my time on the Facebook part of the experience, and direct most of my HP time at the MIM site. Personally, I prefer interacting with the fan-created characters rather than the ones that JK Rowling created. I love to see the stories that people are creating. It's fantastic. I LOVE JK Rowling's characters, but I read about them when I read her books.

I've been also thinking that it would be very unrealistic for my character to be in any sort of contact with the main characters.

A, I can commiserate. I work full-time and have a long commute, and I want to keep up with everything on MiM and Facebook, but there's soooo much going on that it's hard to do that AND do everything in the real world that I need to do.

I must say I truly admire them for juggling all of those characters, constantly making posts on their own and other characters' pages, responding to a bazillion comments and messages from we civilians, organizing events ... and keeping all of the comments, messages and story lines straight!! What an insane amount of work! And all for our entertainment! Talk about devotion and a total love of Harry Potter!

And look how MiM has spawned other sites/blogs, like this and The Real Potter Watch, and who knows how many people are meeting, talking and getting to know each other.

Very cool. Very cool indeed.

Also, while I'll comment occasionally as myself, I prefer to stay primarily in character to make the experience more realistic. Same reason I don't really want to see video of the role-playing characters. I prefer to use my imagination to fill in the gaps.

I'm okay with the idea of making comments on some of the JK Rowling pages because my character would've gone to school with a few of them and, in theory, would have known some of them personally ... but I've felt too shy to comment just yet.

And I'm mostly sticking with the MiM website because, as I said above, there's soooo much going on with the Facebook pages that I just don't have time to follow everything. I generally like the comments better on the MiM website. They seem more well thought out. I think Facebook inspires quicker, spur of the moment comments that may not be as well thought out.

The one thing I'm a bit confused on is, that I signed up for the E-owl's, but so far I've only gotten one. Has anybody else got any others?

Seeing as I don't have a Facebook, I keep my 'experience' mainly to this and MIM, reading articles, reading comments, commenting, and then telling my friends all about the Ministry's latest actions.

It's awesome and my friends think I'm quite crazy, which I am fine with. Because it's a Harry Potter crazy, which is amazing. I love how much effort these amazing people have put in. This is an awesome thing.
P.S. Miss Muggle bug thanks for creating this site!

Aolfe: I didn't know about the Real Potter Watch. Can you post the link?

You're right. The organizers of this are putting a ton of work into it. Some of them are amazing at portraying the characters. My personal favorite is the person doing Slughorn. He or she writes exactly the way I imagine Slughorn would write. Dobby is awesome too...adorable.

Still though. I think I'm going to put most of my HP time into the MIM site.

I think it's great that all these people are getting to know each other. I'm so happy to meet other HP fans.

Lynette: Thank you for the thanking, and I am thankful to everyone who is visiting the site. It was honestly a very impulsive thing. I had absolutely no plans on doing it, and then suddenly it was there.

I agree. There is nothing wrong with Harry Potter crazy.

I haven't signed up for the emails, so I can't give you any information about that. Maybe someone else knows something?

Since this website is a spin-off of MIM, I'll include complaints about myself here. I had some links in the OOC all messed up. But I think I managed to fix them.

Sorry about that.

When I try to go to MIM it keeps on coming up as 'unavailabe', maybe it's temporary and by the time anybody sees this it will be up and running again. :)

Lynette,

I noticed that too...a few hours ago. But now it's working okay for me. Is it for you?

RE: e-mails, the only one I've gotten was the announcement for the upcoming concert, so I think they're communicating almost entirely via the various websites.

TRM, the link for The Real Potter Watch is below. They started their site, then were asked by MiM to hook up with them for future Potterwatch broadcasts, which will be broadcast from the MiM site. You can take a look at what they've already done to get an idea of what's to come:

Aoife,

Thank you so much for the link! I posted it on the side bar : )

Also, I'm going to say this here so we don't go too off topic/OOC on the video post. I'm glad you like your hair! I bet it's beautiful. I think all of us have things we like about ourselves, and things we don't.

The Real Me,
It's working again, don't know what happened before.

@The Real Me:
Thank you! :) I'm still in high school, though... we have 5 exams here in Estonia in the end of grade 12 and so I have to take them too to finish...

The Real Me said...

A,

Good luck on your exams! I went to read a little bit about Estonia, because I don't know much about it. I love learning about countries.

I'm pretty sure Magic is Might uses WordPress. I went to the WordPress site and saw this message board (http://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/account-suspended). It seems sometimes people get their accounts mysteriously suspended, and have no idea why. Suddenly, they get locked out of their accounts.

Hopefully, Magic is Might folks can get straightened out.

Please be nice to each other, even if you disagree with what the other person is saying.

If you suddenly feel possessed by a futuristic Muggle, PLEASE go to the OOC section to the right.
