Do you suddenly not feel like yourself?
Do you feel possessed by a Muggle from the 21st century?
Don't worry. It happens to wizards sometimes. They get possessed by futuristic Muggles who feel compelled to say something.
Please direct these souls possessing you to this page, and they can say what's on their mind.

Please support me here! I feel the elimination of the character pages was unfair and against the aim of the Experience.

I agree - or rather, I would, if I didn't think the pages were coming back soon. If they don't bring back the Rebellion characters soon, I will start to get annoyed. I'm playing a Voldy supporter on Facebook, but I miss the conflict. The game feels one-sided at the moment.
On an unrelated note, what are you all doing, character-wise? Are you on Facebook, MiM, or both? Do you play multiple characters? I've got a rebel on MiM and a follower of Voldemort on Facebook, but their actions affect one another in snazzy ways. How are the rest of you playing this?
Hi!
I read your post on Facebook, and I understand your frustrations and concerns about the experience.
I was bemused about the whole thing this morning, and talked to my husband about it. I think he had some good insights. He said it's all PART of the game. In a way, they've actually pushed us to be more in character. We're actually FEELING the helplessness and annoyance that our characters would be feeling.
As people have said (and I agree). The Deathly Hallows isn't exactly a smiley happy picnic. It's a bit depressing. It's wild when you compare that book to The Philosophers Stone and The Chamber of Secrets.
My feeling is we should ride the ride, even when it gets a bit bumpy. I have faith (for now) that things for the rebellion will get better. I think the disappearing Facebook characters will return, and we'll love them all the more. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Right? How many times have I searched for Luna today, and I feel a sense of grief that she's missing. And Dobby : (
My only real complaint is the one about the post-its. I spent hours posting them on my blog. I thought I might be able to recruit some of my readers. It annoys me that they're going to click on a site that's a dead end.
Oh...yeah. My husband's theory is that the MIM folks gave us an impossible task, and that they had planned for us to fail all along. He thinks it's all part of the game.
Wren,
I'm so glad you brought that up. I've been wondering about the multiple character thing. I've done three characters, and I didn't know if that was kosher or not. I figured it was probably okay, because a lot of actors play multiple characters....like Barry Humphries.
I'm mostly on MIM, and usually just as one character. I was following Facebook as my real self. I'd comment sometimes, but felt weird talking to fictional characters. So finally today, I created a character page.
So Wren...does your rebel character and Voldy supporter ever interact? Or do you limit them to their own corners?
The Real Me,
Yep. I'm Icarus Colby on MiM and Wren Brockett on Facebook. Wren is an employee and friend of Icarus. They don't interact "on-screen," but they do reference each other's actions. (Ex. Icarus moved a LtS post-it to the apothecary door; Wren found it and burned it)
I definitely think multiple characters is a good idea. It lets you set up little mini-plots and, as in my case, play both sides of the board.
It appears most of you were smarter than I was. XD One advantage and disadvantage of this game is that it's SO in character that we can never be sure what they're up to. I'm very happy for the pushing us into confusion, just happier that they've officially cleared it up so as not to lose participants.
Aaaand they're back! At least some of them are, that is.
Wren: Thank you for telling us! I'm so glad to see the Facebook pages returning.
As for your character storylines, I think it's great how you've connected their stories. Did you create these characters on a whim, for the game. Or did you create them earlier?
Anonymous: Yeah. I'm glad they cleared things up. I also realized that the post-it link page DOES link to the Ministry site....although it's not especially obvious. I wonder if the game/experience has gained any new people because of it.
I have two as well. One, Evelyn Lyric Silverstein (Also known as Michellenore Thomas or Mist Witch), is a rebel, she helps smuggle people out of the country and into the states, and she is also one of Ollivander's secret apprentices through the years so she makes wands. The other, Fredrick T. Wilson, was origionally a pureblood that supported the ministry, then I made him go to work with his dad (a magical law enforcment officer) and he turned Snatcher (a bad ass one, if I don't say so myself). He blames his ex girlfriend (fiance, but that isn't said yet) for stealing his best friends magic and hates blood traitors more than mudbloods. He's also a Death Eater in training, who begs at Bellatrix's and Voldemort's feet. They communicate a bit, mostly to help my friends understand how tey know each other (Evelyn was his exfiance's best friend and one of his close friends at Hogwarts), and interraction on pictures and MIM members pages show the ever growing distance and hatred for each other. Origionally their arguments and hateful remarks were code, but slowly they show the disasterous relationship between the two.
sorry, correction Fredrick origionally supported the rebelion, not the ministry, which changed when his dad took him to work.
TRM, no problem. I was as excited as anyone to see that Tonks was back. :)
And yep, I created my two characters just for this event. Wren was originally me, but I pretty quickly made a new account for her. Icarus was originally meant to be very Snape-y, but he seems to have gone in an entirely different direction.
Michelle, is Evelyn on Facebook and MiM, because I feel like I've seen her on both? Very spiffy backstories you have there, by the way. I like the 'ever-growing distance' aspect; I'm using it as well - or planning to, at least.
I know exactly what the "different direct" feels like. Haha, the characters have minds of their own :P
Yeah, she's on both, I've just recently gone back to posting on MiM, but I'm always on her facebook. I think it's fun to hear how all the different characters play out, especially when you're playing both or know the other person, it's like you get to be someone you'd never dream of being in real life.
Whoever Julianna is she is my new hero. She said everything my bf and I (both veteran role players) were saying to otherselves. I wanna raise my wand to this woman for having convictions for what most of us felt. Brava Julianna
This site needs active moderators to elimnate spam and direct the discussion if they are too off topic.
I will eliminate Spam and try to direct discussion if it goes off topic. However, I think in this OOC area, it's fine to go off topic. I guess there would be a point where I'd be tempted to quiet people....such as if they rambled on and on about Muggle Sports teams.
I followed the link from one of the post-it notes. It's pretty cool now. You end up on the "message seized" page; and a few seconds later it automatically takes you to the MIM site. I didn't notice that happening yesterday, so they must have fixed it recently. It's really great!
On the topic of off-topicness, it seems like it would make sense to see what sort of things people tend to talk about, and make separate posts accordingly. Otherwise, this one page will get quite long and confusing.
Anonymous,
That's a brilliant idea. I'll go do that right now. I'll add some topics, and if there are any more you can think up, please suggest them.
I agree with RM and her husband - the missing pages are all a part of the game and designed to make Rebellion members feel frustrated and helpless. I'm sure Rebellion-related pages will reappear ... but not all of them. As characters are captured or killed, I expect those pages will disappear permanently.
As for me, I'm only playing one character because I also play some online role playing games (some HP, some not), and it's too hard to keep all of those characters straight. I've decided to be part of the Rebellion because 1. that's my natural inclination, to be on the side for good against bullies and oppressors, and 2. my other characters are really truly horribly evil, which is not my natural inclination. I'm getting tired of being rotten in the virtual world.
I also felt uncomfortable using my real name in Facebook for the game, so I created a character profile, though most of my comments are on the MiM site instead of Facebook.
Aolfe, I can imagine how it would be hard keeping characters straight. I've been sticking to one character for the past week or so, because I get confused. The storylines are different enough not to confuse me; it's more about mixing up personality and writing styles.
I think it takes strength and courage to play the villains. I believe we all have a dark side, and it can be scary to let that part of us come out. There's also the fact that a lot of venom is probably aimed in your direction. I'm very sensitive. I don't know if I could handle too much of it. I'd be likely to scream out. "This isn't me! I'm not bad! I'm not bad!"
TRM, I'm actually finding it harder to play my rebel than my villain. That may just be because I tend toward antagonists in general and have an easier time justifying their actions. That's probably why even my 'good' characters have to be somewhat unpleasant. It could also be because I don't think I'd be brave enough to join the Rebellion if it happened to me, so playing the other side seems more realistic. Thoughts?
Wren, I think it's much easier to join a rebellion in a fictional game than it is in real life. Just because people join the brave side in a game, doesn't mean they would do so in reality. It's really hard to judge what we'd do in a situation until it's actually happened to us.
So, which are your favorite characters in Harry Potter? Do you feel sympathy for the villains?
I feel for Voldemort at times. When you don't have anyone in your life who loves you, I think power might look like an attractive substitute.
As for unpleasant good characters....That would be like Snape. Also, James Potter.
I think there are nice good people and mean bad people. But we also have mean (abrasive) good people and polite/nice bad people. Voldemort's little recorded announcement yesterday would have been an example of the latter.
I've always been a rebel, always for good/positive causes, so that's not very hard for me. I must admit that embracing my evil side, when I know the only negative impact is virtual, has been satisfying. And kind of revealing. Never thought I could be ruthless or treacherous, didn't like to think I could be, but I learned through online role playing that I definitely can be, if I allow it. As Sirius said, "We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are."
I feel sympathy for a lot of villains in HP, including Draco Malfoy and Tom Riddle. I suspect they would have been entirely different people (good ... or at least not rotten) if they'd had different childhoods. I do think, like real world serial killers, Tom Riddle lacked a certain something (Empathy for others?) that allowed him to go so very wrong, but, if he'd been raised with love, respect and a strong sense of ethics, he could have avoided going the evil overlord route. I believe a lot of people exist who lack that certain something, but somehow their upbringing prevented that criminal/killer switch from being flipped on.
And I'll stop blathering now.
Aolfe,
I love that Sirius quote, and I agree with it. My feelings are very similar to yours in terms of villains. One day I was comparing Tom Riddle to Harry Potter. They both had childhoods lacking in love. Why did one turn a hero, and the other a power-hungry murderer? I think you're right about Tom Riddle lacking a certain something. And I also think you're right that many people lack this, but get the care needed to prevent them from going all evil.
I also would suspect there's significance in the fact that Harry Potter did have parental love his first year of life. I think that could make a huge difference. Would he have had the same outcome if his parents had died immediately after his birth? What if he was raised by the Dursley's from the beginning.
The other thing I want to add is I think playing the villain can give us new insights and perspective. The other character I played for awhile wasn't evil, but she was ignorant and oblivious. I created her to mock certain people that I know. For awhile, it was a way for me to vent about these certain people who get on my nerves. I had a lot of anger towards them. But then the character grew on me, and I became very sympathetic towards her. The whole experience was a major personal-growth moment for me. It taught me to be more tolerant of people, and less judgmental. Although I still have a LONG way to go in that area.
I'm a sucker for the characters who are not only villains, but usually disliked by the fandom. Although Snape is my favorite character, he's followed by Peter Pettigrew, Igor Karkaroff, Quirrell, Slughorn, and Grindelwald.
That Sirius quote is fantastic, althought I HATE what they did to it in the movie. I tend to dislike characters that don't have both light and dark in them - so, while I don't care for, say, Luna Lovegood, I also don't like Bellatrix Lestrange. They're too purely good or bad for me.
Wren,
It sounds like you root for the underdog.
I like Slughorn. He's one of my favorite characters.
I never thought of Luna Lovegood as being all good. You're probably right. I can't think of anything bad about her. Although some would think she's bad simply for the fact that she's weird. In some circles, weirdness equals badness.
I like Bellatrix, but probably just the movie version because of Helena Bonham Carter.
TRM, I think Harry would've been good even if the Dursleys raised him from birth. Years of neglect and abuse can, and often do, completely negate any love/care people get early in life. Many people are traumatized and become neglectful and abusive themselves. But some fortunate souls don't turn out that way, including Harry. With his upbringing, including having only negative role models from a very young age, Harry could easily have become spiteful, cruel, angry, violent, and no one would have been surprised. Despite everything, Harry is kindhearted, generous, caring, brave, strong and, well, nice. He's flawed, but he's truly a good guy. Why? I believe Harry, and others who grow up under such circumstances turn out well (including people I know in the real world), must have been born with a tremendous inner strength and natural inclination towards goodness that helps them overcome all the negatives.
Tom Riddle/Voldemort is a good example of the opposite. He was born with a weakness, some sort of lack, that naturally inclines him towards badness. No amount of love and good parenting would have been able to completely overcome that. Part of him would be rotten no matter what (and I suspect we all know people like this). He probably would've grown up to be a tyrannical bureaucrat/executive who bullied his staff, embezzled money from his employer, then went home after work to say cruel things to his wife and children, but he wouldn't have been a killer.
Aolfe, You're probably right. There's those people who aren't evil murdering maniacs, but they still spend their life hurting others. Still...it's hard to label people.
When we meet someone who is cruel and uses their power to hurt others, we can't immediately know whether they're a Snape or a Voldemort. Both are very mean, but one had a heart deep inside there.
I am feeling possesed by a 21st century muggle who insists that today is Fred and George Weasley's birthday.
A Haiku:
Fred and George Weasley,
The best pranksters of their time,
Born on April 1st.
Happy Birthday Fred and George!
Lynette,
Lovely way to honor Fred and George! Is it really their birthday? I didn't know that.
Yep, yesterday was really their 33rd birthday!
Well, only George's, really.
Ah! *Blushes* Maybe I should stay off Facebook, first day and I already mess up.
What happened?
Yeah! I want to know what happened. Please share! Was it funny? I think we need to have Magic is Might Bloopers.
I messed up on the main site. I didn't know that we weren't supposed to know about the Voldemort and Tom Riddle connection. I though that was common knowledge.
I like when people play two characters, then forget to change their name on the site, and have to explain that.
I did the 'forgetting to change you name' thing once. I was talking to Becca, I think.
Erm... I told Dolohov I was going to kill him for murdering my boyfriend and He was kind of like, "What the 'ell?" Then he said some thing about security wards and, I quote: "you cannot waltz in and threaten to kill Antonin. Don't even try."
I thought it was kind of funny, personally.
Omigosh. ^-^
Adrian Pucey posted this status:
Thank you ALL for your words of CONGRATULATIONS. It is MUCH APPRECIATED. I hope you can all find ways to serve Our Dark Lord as I have. It is very REWARDING work, I must say.
I, being the good citizen I am, told him he was batshit insane.
He then updated his status to this:
is "batshit insane"
I laughed so hard.
I'm a bit lost actually, but I do like Adrian Pucey's status update. That's cute.
Yep, I saw Adrian's status. It's lovely.
And you can always send Dolohov an owl. That's a way around lots of things.
I'm sorry. ^-^
Where are you lost at?
Wren: An owl? What ae the advantages to using an owl?
Ah...don't worry about it. I think it's the Facebook thing. The whole thing boggles my mind. That's why I dropped out. I probably needed an instruction building from the very beginning "How to Play Magic is Might on Facebook."
So anyway, I'm actually lost on what you did. Maybe I get it. Did you threaten the wrong person? Is that it?
You can try to explain, or just forget it. I'm not always the smartest person ; )
In lots of situations, you can't actually be in the same place as the person - like with Dolohov, where there are wards in place and you'd probably die anyway. But, if it's an owl message, you can be safe at Hogwarts or anywhere else. 'Tis useful.
The Real Me: I threatened him, when I was nowhere near him. It's a bit confusing.
Wren: that does sound useful...
Well, Alyssa is going to go torture Neville. Be back soon. :)
My boyfriend was going to do Dudley Dursley and a Voldemort supporter, but couldn't pull off the latter. So he's Dudley Dursley, Rebellion supporter, and Steinbach Wolfstar, American teacher at a Wizard school. I had a hard enough time writing my own fanfiction, no way I can do 2 characters.
"My boyfriend was going to do Dudley Dursley and a Voldemort supporter, but couldn't pull off the latter."
I'm sorry, I couldn't stop giggling at that. :)
PopcornLvr,
LOL. I never saw it that way, but once you mentioned it I had a good laugh.
Soory it made me giggle too! "My boyfriend was going to do Dudley Dursley and a Voldemort supporter, but couldn't pull off the latter." I imagined senario 1. you were trying to pull either Dudly or Voldemort off a latter or 2. that you had to use a latter as stilts to be voldemort HAHA!!! XD
Anyway, repost over here in layman's terms.
I have 2 characters.
Evelyn got out of Hogwarts a year ago (Hugglepuff) and she now works for the rebellion going back and forth smuggling people to america and making wands (she was one of Ollivander's secret apprentences). She is/was one of Fredrick's very best friends, but since his incident she believes he really is evil now (which is true).
Fredrick gradutated same year, only SLytherin. He was a Rebel, but then he went to work with his dad (magical law enforcement) and now he's brainwashed and a Death Eater in Training. He is evil, but he's stil sauve, and I think hemay still be in love with Valerie.
[Valerie, if you don't know, was his secret fiance. SHe was a muggleborn, but I haven't disclosed what's happened to her yet]
Hi Michelle/Evelyn,
It's nice to see you again! So, are you doing your characters more on the Magic is Might site or Facebook?
I like all the conflicts and brainwashing in your story. I'm wondering what will happen to Frederick. Will he remain brainwashed, or will he love for Valerie pull him back to the other side....
I proved that I am totally Ravenclaw today. One of the professors offered a prize to whoever had the most intelligent responses during class. Guess who won? I now have a new book on CD to listen to on the global warming crisis. I'm pretty self satisfied at the moment.
SC Mather,
Awesome! Congratulations. I hope you enjoy the book. I love those moments when we can feel self-satisfied.
As an FY: I have two more days left until the last day of uni for the summer. I've pulled an insane amount of all-nighters and have had no free time. As of tomorrow that changes. By Wednesday i should have the next installment of Sus's story. Just so you know. I didn't vanish.
Sc Mather,
I hope your last days of school go well. I'm sure it will be nice to get a break during the summer!
I look forward to reading more of your story!

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!
Got this e-mail a couple weeks ago:
Hello everyone!
The 'Magic is Might' staff is currently working on creating an "inside look" documentary for PotterCon 2012: an entirely-online Harry Potter conference put on by Wizarding Life - the same people that created the Magic is Might Experience.
Our documentary is a 30-60 minute look inside Magic is Might: what it is, how it came about, the extent of roleplaying, the article creation process, editing work, graphics, technology and most importantly - the response that fans have had connecting with the experience.
We would love for you to make us a YouTube video to appear in the documentary explaining any or all of the following points:
1) How did you find out about MiM?
2) Do you roleplay with others?
3) What was your experience?
4) What did you like the most?
5) Most memorable moment?
6) Have you made new friends?
7) What did you like outside roleplaying?
Feel free to use those questions is a guideline. You can talk about whatever your heart desires, and you can speak about things outside those questions - feel free! These are only questions to get you started, or get you talking.
If you do not want your video available to the public, you can choose to make your video private and only accessible to those who have the link.
Keep your video under five minutes and send it to us as soon as possible!
You can submit your video by visting: http://magicismight.co.uk/submit-your-video/
Yours truly,
Magic is Might Staff
I'm so excited!!!
I wonder what it is. ??????

POTTERMORE... Looks... Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lynette,
I agree!
Hello,
Sorry I've been gone. Things have been crazy, all in good ways, but my present realities are commanding the majority of my attention.
I work at a residential camps for individuals with disabilities over the summer. Staff training week happened recently and right now, I am only home Friday-Sunday.
On top of that Boyfriend proposed last week and is therefore no longer boyfriend but fiance. We have a date set next May but wedding planning is consuming what little free time I had left. All wonderful things but, unfortunately I have to bow out of the game to continue all the other wonderful things I have in my life.
I apologize. Everything is just crazy and fun, I'll be with you all in spirit.
-SC
Congratulations!!!
That's awesome!
I hope you enjoy all the wedding planning. I had a lot of fun with that.
That's really neat about the camp. Is it a day camp or sleepover camp?
I worked at a camp for kids with Cystic Fibrosis when I was a teenager. I loved it.
Congratulations, SC!!!!!!!
