I will not deny it. In my opinion, JK Rowling's series is the best fiction out there. To me, everything else pales in comparison. But I do love other stuff, and I'm sure you do as well.
Oh, I found a cool place, finally. Besides Potter I read a lot of fantasy, and right now my biggest favourites are vampires. I'm currently reading, or have read all the books published in "The House of Night" series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. I recommend them to anyone that also loves to read about vampires and don't be put of by the teenage language - the books are actually very enticing and will make you read throughout the night until you're finished. Honestly. :)
A: I've read The House of Night, and love the series. I think I'm one book behind.
Have you read the Sookie Stackhouse books...True Blood?
I might be stoned for admitting this, but I liked the Twilight series. It's nothing compared to Harry Potter, but I think it's fun.
I'm actually past young adulthood, but I tend to read a lot of teen fiction. One of my favorite series is an Australian one by Jaclyn Moriarty. The books don't have to be read in order. The stories are slightly connected, but not in a sequel-type way.
I love history, so I read a lot of history books and historical novels. One of my favorite series is Colleen McCullough's Masters of Rome series. She did a huge amount of research, so the books are rather long and filled with a lot of very interesting dense, detailed information. Be warned they are NOT light reading.
I also read a lot of English and British fiction and non-fiction, especially mysteries and detective stories (love Anne Perry's mysteries, especially the Thomas Pitt series).
Overall, John Steinbeck is my favorite author, and The Pastures of Heaven is my absolute favorite book of his.
I do read newer books, like HP, but I really love the classics. They're classic for good reasons.
I've read one or two McCollough books, but not the Rome ones. I read one about the Blue Mountains, but I forgot the name.
What other classics are your favorite besides Steinbeck's books?
I tend to prefer light-reading. I like to be intellectually stimulated with ideas, but not with language. I don't enjoy books where I have to struggle to understand the text. I just want to relax, and fall into the story.
These days I usually read either Australian fiction, young adult fiction...and books that fit into both those categories. In the past, I read a lot of popular fiction: Stephen King, Anne Rice, Pat Conroy, John Irving, etc.
I don't often read and enjoy classics, but there are a few I like. The Grapes of Wrath (Hey, that's Steinbeck, isn't it?), Jane Eyre, Dracula...those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
@The Real Me: I've wanted to read them, but I haven't found the books in Estonian bookstores yet... guess I have to look more. And the TV series I'm going to download soon too :).
TRM, I haven't forgotten about those classics. Just haven't had time to put a list together. I'll try to in the next few days. In the meanwhile, just about anything by Thomas Hardy is great!
I like fantasy novels, like the Percy Jackson series, the Farworld series, and the Grey Griffin series. One of my all-time favorite books is The Girl Who Could Fly, it's so well written I just want to cry when I read it. And I don't cry.
I've never really read any Classics... I'll get right on that.
I read a LOT. Harry Potter will always be the best series arround but when my parents ban me from reading them for a month (they actually do) one of the things i read are by this Australian dude called Garth Nix (real name) I prefer to read serieses and he has done a few, the keys to the kingdom series, the seventh tower series and the Sabrielle, Lirael, Abhorsen trilogy. I prefer sort of adventure and magic storys so these are great. I also like the Chronicals of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver.
Hi! Why do your parents ban you from Harry Potter?? That's interesting. Are they trying to get you to read other stuff?
I am excited to learn of Garth Nix because I'm VERY much into Australian things. I try to read a lot of Australian literature, but have never heard of Nix. Now I have something else to look for.
Yeah he's good he does sort of fantasy magicy adventure things. Also yeah they get sick of me talking about Potter 24/7 and linking everything i say or do back to it that they say i have to read one different book before i can read it again but i read so fast I'm back to Potter in about a day.

PopcornLve,
I looked up the Girl Who Could Fly. I think it's something I'd love. I need to read it!
Yes, you do! Everyone does! ^-^ I declare today National Read This Awesome Book Day.
Do any of you have favourite movies or TV shows?
I watch Glee, The Office, 30 Rock and Bones on a semi-regular basis.
As far as books go I think everyone ever should be made to read American Gods by Neil Gaimen and Nightwatch by Terry Pratchett.
I'de say Harry Potter ranks #1 with me and then:
#2 Percy Jackson
#3 The Mysterious Benedict Society
