Genes and Stuff

Hello.

I'm sorry I haven't written in awhile.   My mum found out about you-know-who's interruption of the Rebellion concert.  She was a bit paranoid about allowing me to use the Internet.   My dad talked her into calming down a bit.    So here I am.

We went to see a film this afternoon.   It's called Gattaca.   It reminds me a bit of what's going on in our lives.   It's all about people caring too much about your genetics.   It's like the whole blood status thing.

People care too much about trivial things.    Why can't we judge people on whether they're nice and do good things?  Why do we have to care about things like their genes or their skin colour or their blood status?

All of this prejudice is really unfair, and it wastes a lot of time.  Also, it kills people.

But still....the movie was good.   I like the actors in it.

After the movie, we went to a Chinese restaurant.   That was nice.   I was hoping my fortune cookie would give me some profound advice about all that is going on.   All it said was that I should eat more Chinese food.   Really?   That's the answer to everything?

I recently watched that movie, too, Alex. It clearly demonstrates that it's not what you're born with that matters but what you do with what you get. All the perfect genes in the world cannot guarantee success or happiness or even the ambition or desire to pursue & achieve them, yet perceived weaknesses and imperfections are often the very characteristics that inspire and enable people to achieve success and/or happiness.

Having a workshop full of expensive, top of the line tools doesn't guarantee you'll be able to use them well, if at all; however, a master craftsman, through years of learning and practice, is capable of creating objects of tremendous beauty with even the most imperfect tools.

Mmm. Chinese food. I think I'll need to sneak into a muggle town for dinner tonight.

*points to comment* Forgot to say the Ministry seems utterly unaware of this. Silly Ministry.

Aoife,

Maybe we should send cinema tickets to the Ministry. They might learn something from watching it. Although I'm sure the majority of Ministry workers would refuse to watch anything made by Muggles.

I hope you find some Chinese food!

Never mind. I just learned that the film isn't even playing in the UK yet. Oh well. I guess the Ministry members can apparate to a country that's playing the movie. I'm kind of doubting they'll go through that trouble though.

Yeah, the ministry isn't fond of anything that resembles the truth.

I hope I get the chance to watch Gattaca. It sounds fascinating.

As for the chinese food, unfortunately we're having rabbits and potatoes...again...

Not that I'm complaining but some chinese would be a nice switch.

SC Mather,

I'm hoping you get to eat something besides potatoes and rabbits soon!

Please be nice to each other, even if you disagree with what the other person is saying.

If you suddenly feel possessed by a futuristic Muggle, PLEASE go to the OOC section to the right.
